Launch Date

The date the product was first introduced.

Lithography

Lithography refers to the semiconductor technology used to manufacture an integrated circuit, and is reported in nanometer (nm), indicative of the size of features built on the semiconductor.

Use Conditions

Use conditions are the environmental and operating conditions derived from the context of system use.

# of Cores

Cores is a hardware term that describes the number of independent central processing units in a single computing component (die or chip).

# of Threads

A Thread, or thread of execution, is a software term for the basic ordered sequence of instructions that can be passed through or processed by a single CPU core.

Processor Base Frequency

Processor Base Frequency describes the rate at which the processor’s transistors open and close. The processor base frequency is the operating point where TDP is defined. Frequency is typically measured in gigahertz (GHz), or billion cycles per second.

Max Turbo Frequency

Max turbo frequency is the maximum single core frequency at which the processor is capable of operating using Intel® Turbo Boost Technology and, if present, Intel® Thermal Velocity Boost. Frequency is typically measured in gigahertz (GHz), or billion cycles per second.

Cache

CPU Cache is an area of fast memory located on the processor. Intel® Smart Cache refers to the architecture that allows all cores to dynamically share access to the last level cache.

# of UPI Links

Intel® Ultra Path Interconnect (UPI) links are a high speed, point-to-point interconnect bus between the processors, delivering increased bandwidth and performance over Intel® QPI.

Thermal Design Power (TDP) represents the average power, in watts, the processor dissipates when operating at Base Frequency with all cores active under an Intel-defined, high-complexity workload. Refer to Datasheet for thermal solution requirements.

Embedded Options Available

Embedded Options Available indicates products that offer extended purchase availability for intelligent systems and embedded solutions. Product certification and use condition applications can be found in the Production Release Qualification (PRQ) report. See your Intel representative for details.

Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type)

Max memory size refers to the maximum memory capacity supported by the processor.

Memory Types

Intel® processors come in four different types: Single Channel, Dual Channel, Triple Channel, and Flex Mode. Maximum supported memory speed may be lower when populating multiple DIMMs per channel on products that support multiple memory channels.

Max # of Memory Channels

The number of memory channels refers to the bandwidth operation for real world application.

ECC Memory Supported

ECC Memory Supported indicates processor support for Error-Correcting Code memory. ECC memory is a type of system memory that can detect and correct common kinds of internal data corruption. Note that ECC memory support requires both processor and chipset support.

Intel® Optane™ Persistent Memory Supported

Intel® Optane™ persistent memory is a revolutionary tier of non-volatile memory that sits between memory and storage to provide large, affordable memory capacity that is comparable to DRAM performance. Delivering large system-level memory capacity when combined with traditional DRAM, Intel Optane persistent memory is helping transform critical memory constrained workloads – from cloud, databases, in-memory analytics, virtualization, and content delivery networks.

PCI Express Revision

PCI Express Revision is the supported version of the PCI Express standard. Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (or PCIe) is a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard for attaching hardware devices to a computer. The different PCI Express versions support different data rates.

Max # of PCI Express Lanes

A PCI Express (PCIe) lane consists of two differential signaling pairs, one for receiving data, one for transmitting data, and is the basic unit of the PCIe bus. Max # of PCI Express Lanes is the total number of supported lanes.

Sockets Supported

The socket is the component that provides the mechanical and electrical connections between the processor and motherboard.

TCASE

Case Temperature is the maximum temperature allowed at the processor Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS).

Intel® Deep Learning Boost (Intel® DL Boost)

HWF: о новых процессорах Intel в серверах Dell PowerEdge

Компания Intel, как и известно значительно расширила линейку процессоров для серверов, как за счет выпуска ряда новых моделей, так и за счет модификации оптимизации выпущенных ранее (с наращиванием частоты и/или увеличением количества ядер).

Как отмечают специалисты фирмы HWF, текущий модельный ряд серверных процессоров семейства Intel Xeon 2-го поколения можно вкратце описать следующим образом:

  • всего предусмотрено 4 отдельные линейки: Bronze, Silver, Gold и Platinum;
  • серия включает как процессоры с небольшим количеством ядер и высокой тактовой частотой, так и, наоборот — с большим количеством ядер и более низкими частотами;
  • в серию также добавлены специализированные версии процессоров (специализация обозначается соответствующей буквой в названии — о них см. ниже).

Специалисты компании особое внимание рекомендуют обращать в частности на следующие модели процессоров:

  • Intel Xeon Silver 4215R — увеличение частоты до 3.2 ГГц (по сравнению с 2.5 ГГц в 4215);
  • Intel Xeon Gold 6226R — увеличение частоты на 0,2 ГГц и увеличение количества ядер на 4.

Напомним также относительно обозначений «специализации» процессора в названии модели:

L — поддержка до 4.5 ТБ RAM на процессор (стандартное ограничение составляет 1 ТБ на процессор);

M — поддержка до 2 TB RAM на процессор;

N — процессор, разработанный специально для виртуальных сетей (Network Function Virtualization), например, SD-WAN;

SSearch engine — процессор, оптимизированный для выполнения операций поиска в облаке;

UUniprocesor — только один процессор на сервере;

VVM Density Value;

Y — поддержка Intel Speed ​​Select — технология Performance Profile, позволяющая изменять базовую и Turbo-частоты отдельных ядер.

И в завершение, порекомендуем также обратить внимание и на процессоры с обозначением U. Для решения целого ряда задач один процессор такого типа обойдется дешевле, чем два с одинаковым общим числом ядер.
